Dear friends,

The summer is close to its end, people are returning back to their daily routines and the children have to slowly start adapting to the idea of returning back to school. The end of summer vacations is not what the kids like but it is inevitable as is the return to classes.

There are many issues concerning their children that parents have to consider during this period of the year. The adaptation period has to start early enough, at least two weeks prior to the beginning of the school year.

Buying all material goods that are necessary for the new school year is of course a timely subject but more important is for the parents to help their children get a regular healthy sleeping rhythm and have a healthy nutrition.

Good sleep and healthy nutrition are of capital importance for children of all ages and adolescents for a good school performance, behaviour, interaction with their peers and quality of life.

It is difficult for children to adapt to a regular sleeping rhythm after the easygoing, late hours sleep time of the summer vacations. However sleep deprivation is a major cause of learning difficulties, inattention, accidents, obesity and relational problems with their peers.

Parents should not forget that they are the model that their children very often imitate. It is therefore extremely important that parents set the good example. This should extend to all issues in which a similar behavior is expected or demanded from the children such as good sleep habits, healthy nutrition and correct social interactions.
