Dear friends,

The continuing financial crisis that we are currently undergoing is not only steadily worsening but it threatens people in developed and in developing countries. Children who already pay a heavy burden in poor countries will suffer more and malnutrition will rise to unprecedented levels.

The people most in need will experience the strongest unfavorable and durable consequences of the current crisis and the ensuing global recession. Income earnings regression, unemployment coupled with higher food prices will make the struggle for survival for millions of people even harder.

It is imperative that the wealthiest and more developed nations should work actively and cooperate for finding sustainable solutions for ending hunger and poverty. In our times happiness, prosperity and wellbeing is a collective issue. The target must be that everybody in our planet should be offered health, food and resources for a decent life.

Solidarity between people, nations and countries is not only imperative on moral grounds but as well a necessary precondition for peace, growth, health and the fight against terrorism. The threats that humanity faces today are global and collective, sparing nobody and easily transferable.

Climate change, diseases, poverty, terrorism, financial breakdowns and other problems are interrelated and need a collective active management from responsible leaders, politicians, scientists and people from all over the world.

The worsening international situation in terms of economy, food resources and climate change should draw the interest and active involvement of everybody. There is more relevant information in the article Financial crisis, impact of growth, climate change, biofuels and rising food prices that you will find attached with our 72nd Progressive Newsletter.

Taking care of the people most in need and especially helping children to have adequate nutrition, health and education should be a priority. The challenges in front of us are many and difficult. There is no time to loose and solidarity is a prerequisite for the wellbeing of the rich and poor countries alike.
