Experts around the world warn that it is necessary to initially slow emissions in order to stop this ominous series of events leading to global warming and the ensuing human and ecological disasters.

Dear Friends,

During the past decade we have been witnessing unpredictable changes with the normal weather pattern.

Some areas, like the United Kingdom, have experienced the highest temperatures since records have been compiled. In France and the rest of Europe these high temperatures have resulted in high death tolls.

Coupled with the record breaking temperatures, mainland Europe has experienced flash flooding, which has resulted in deaths as well as significant destruction of property.

The contributing factor to this is global warming. Global warming is predominantly caused by carbon dioxide.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States, energy from the sun drives the earth’s weather and climate, and heats the earth’s surface; in turn, the earth radiates energy back into space. Atmospheric greenhouse gases (water vapor, carbon dioxide, and other gases) trap some of the outgoing energy, retaining heat somewhat like the glass panels of a greenhouse.

There are a number of national and international directives aimed at reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that is being emitted. There are also initiatives aimed at reversing their adverse impact.

Having these worrying and unwelcome evolution in mind, we prepared an article that you will find attached with our 38th monthly Progressive Newsletter the article Global warming: Impact on people and the environment

We are all involved in this process. More and more individuals become increasingly aware of the connection between the actions they take on a day-to-day basis and overall environmental quality.

Hopefully, better awareness will lead to measures that will control the problem and assure a better future for us and our children.

Flooding, coastal erosion, droughts, salt water intrusion into soils, unusual high levels of tropical storms, cyclones, huge loads of rain are among the effects seen in various parts of the world during the past years which have been attributed to global temperature rise.
