The Progressive Insurance
Newsletter May 2003 When we have an emergency, it is very important that we know what we are expected to do! Therefore, you will need to have the correct information available to you in order to protect yourself from serious injury or harm. Earthquakes are among the most frightening and harmful types of emergencies that we may have to encounter. Recent tragic events have shown that the non existence or violation of appropriate seismic building codes can have disastrous results. It is with these facts in mind that we are including in our fourth newsletter an article about Earthquakes. Natural phenomena such as earthquakes and hurricanes are among the most costly disasters. However it is the destruction of the World Trade Center that has changed attitudes to risk worldwide. The terrorist attack affected more kinds of insurance than any other disaster. It made insurers and policyholders reconsider their risk exposures. Individuals are buying more life and disability insurance. Businesses are seeking to better protect their assets. Insurers and particularly reinsurers who insure insurance companies, are being more selective about risks they assume. With demand exceeding supply, prices for particulars and business coverages are rising. Insurance is a way of protecting ourselves against the loss of things that we value such as health, property and sometimes income. Purchasing an insurance policy will help to cover financial losses that may occur. However there are many other proactive choices we can make to maintain those things we value. Therefore I do hope that you will find the information we provide you about earthquake, interesting and useful and hope to hear from you.

much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which
