The Progressive Insurance
Newsletter October 2004 This month our attention is drawn to the alarming growth of the global population. The world population is expected to exceed 8,000 million by the year 2030. To cope with the obvious demand for food, there is considerable pressure being placed on farmers, processors, retailers and governments. Food safety is a priority for consumers, farmers, processors, retailers and governments. Protecting the food chain from the multitude of hazards present from production to consumption is a serious painstaking enterprise. Adequately protecting the food chain from the potential dangers is an industry in its own right. In heavily industrialised countries studies reflect that as much as 33% of the population suffer from food-borne disease. The heavily publicised BSE (mad cow disease) is estimated to have cost the United Kingdom some $6,000 million. Attached is a link to the article Food safety and population growth included in our 21st monthly Progressive Newsletter, which provides interesting information about this hot topic. The provision of safe food is the primary responsibility of all players in the food processing chain, and ultimately to us as individuals to ensure that we are aware of what is happening around us. Responsibility also extends to the end consumer, who must be educated to ensure that food is properly stored, hygienically prepared and food shelf lives are respected.

Our Quote: "
I am not judged by the number of times I fail, but by the number of
times I succeed; and the number of times I succeed is in direct proportion
to the number of times I can fail and keep on trying."
